Uses

Rabeprazole is used to treat irritation of the esophagus caused by gastro esophageal reflux and other conditions which produce too much stomach acid.

Active Ingredients: rabeprazole sodium

Inactive Ingredients: carnauba wax, crospovidone, diacetylated monoglycerides, ethylcellulose, hydroxypropyl cellulose, hypromellose phthalate, magnesium stearate, mannitol, sodium hydroxide, sodium stearyl fumarate, talc, titanium dioxide.

Dosage and Forms

Rabeprazole is available for oral administration as delayed-release, enteric-coated tablets containing 20 mg of rabeprazole sodium. Take Rabeprazole with a full glass of water, with our without food. Do not crush, break, or chew Rabeprazole tablet. Swallow the pill whole. It is specially made to release medicine slowly in the body. Do not take Rabeprazole in larger amounts, or take it for longer than recommended by your doctor.

Seek emergency medical attention if you think you have used too much of this medicine. Symptoms of a Rabeprazole overdose are not known.

Contraindications and Precautions

Before taking Rabeprazole, tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are allergic to it; or to similar drugs (e.g., lansoprazole, omeprazole); or if you have any other allergies.

Before using Rabeprazole, tell your doctor or pharmacist your medical history, especially of: severe liver disease, other stomach problems (e.g., tumors).

Side Effects

Get emergency medical help if you have any of these signs of an allergic reaction: hives; difficulty breathing; swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat. Less serious side effects may include: headache, upset stomach or diarrhea, insomnia or nervousness, a rash or itching.

Interactions

Rabeprazole can interact with the following:

• a blood thinner such as warfarin (Coumadin)
• ketoconazole (Nizoral)
• cyclosporine (Sandimmune, Neoral).

There may be other drugs that can interact with Rabeprazole. Tell your doctor about all your prescription and over-the-counter medications, vitamins, minerals, herbal products, and drugs prescribed by other doctors. Do not start a new medication without telling your doctor.
