Other Brand/Trade Names: Spironolactone is sold under different brand names worldwide, including: Novo-Spiroton, Spiractin, Spirotone, Verospiron, Berlactone UsesSpironolactone is used in the treatment of swelling and fluid retention, high or low blood pressure, and excess secretion of the hormone aldosterone by the adrenal gland. Active Ingredients: Spironolactone Inactive Ingredients: calcium sulfate, corn starch, crospovidone, dextrose, hypromellose, magnesium stearate, maltodextrin, natural peppermint flavor, polydextrose, polyethylene glycol, povidone, silicon dioxide, titanium dioxide, triacetin. Dosage and FormsSpironolactone can be found in form of pills. Take Spironolactone pills by mouth with full glass of water or with food as schedulled by your doctor. Symptoms of Spironolactone overdose may include the following: drowsiness, confusion, red skin rash, nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea. If the overdose is suspected contact your doctor or emergency room immediately. Contraindications and PrecautionsSpironolactone should be avoided by patients who have heart disease, liver disease, kidney disease or are unable to urinate, high potassium levels. Besides, Spironolactone is contraindicated to pregnant or breast-feeding women. Note that drinking alcohol can increase some of the Spironolactone side effects. InteractionsSpironolactone should be avoided to be taken along with the following: lithium, digoxin, steroids, an ACE inhibitor such as benazepril, captopril, enalapril, lisinopril, ramipril, indomethacin or other NSAIDs (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs) such as aspirin, ibuprofen, diclofenac, naproxen, piroxicam, nabumetone, etodolac. |
