Uses

Amoxicillin is considered the drug of choice for the treatment of acute sinusitis, acute otitis media, and of acute exacerbations of chronic bronchitis. It is also suitable for the treatment of streptococcal pharyngitis, as an alternative to co-trimoxazol for uncomplicated infections of the urinary tract and can also be administered for other infections.

Active Ingredients: Amoxicillin or Amoxicillin trihydrated.
Inactive Ingredients: magnesium stearate, cellulose (microcrystalline), povidone, sodium starch glycollate, titanium dioxide, talc (purified), hypromellose.

Dosage and Forms

Amoxicillin can be found in form of pills, capsules or powder.
Take each dose of Amoxicillin with a full glass of water. Do not crush, crew or cut the pill, swallow it the whole.
Symptoms of Amoxicillin overdose are the following: diarrhea, nausea, vomiting or stomach cramps. If the overdose is suspected, contact your doctor or emergency room immediately.

Contraindications and Precautions

Amoxicillin is contraindicated to patients who have allergic reaction to any of its ingredients, penicillin or cephalosporins. It should not be used in glandular fever (infectious mononucleosis).

Side Effects

Amoxicillin may cause the following side effects: mild rashes, maculopapular rash, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, pseudo membranous colitis, allergic reaction.

Interactions

Amoxicillin may interact with amino glycosides or oral contraceptives. Oral contraceptives may become less effective, so alternative contraceptive methods should be used to prevent pregnancy while taking Amoxicillin.
