Generic Name: Rosiglitazone US Brand Name: Avandia Other Brand/Trade Names: Rosiglitazone is also known under the following brand names: Glimide, Rezult. UsesRosiglitazone is used to treat people with type II diabetes, particularly overweight people, whose blood sugar is not sufficiently controlled by diet and exercise alone, and who cannot take metformin. Active Ingredients: Rosiglitazone or Rosiglitazone maleate Inactive Ingredients: Tablets contain the following inactive ingredients: hypromellose 2910, lactose monohydrate, magnesium stearate, microcrystalline cellulose, polyethylene glycol 3000, sodium starch glycolate, titanium dioxide, triacetin, and 1 or more of the following: Synthetic red and yellow iron oxides and talc. Dosage and FormsRosiglitazone is available in form of tablets. Take each dose of Rosiglitazone as scheduled by your doctor, with a full glass of water or with food to minimize dizziness. The Rosiglitazone overdose may become apparent by the following symptoms: hypoglycemia, drowsiness, nausea, vomiting. If the overdose took place, seek for emergency medical attention. Contraindications and PrecautionsThe presence of the following medical problems may affect the use of Rosiglitazone: decreased kidney or liver function, swelling of the back of the eye (macular edema), low hemoglobin levels in the blood, heart failure, acute coronary syndromes, diabetic ketoacidosis, diabetic pre-coma; besides it’s not recommended to elderly people, children and adolescents under 18 years of age, pregnant or breast-feeding women. Side EffectsCommon Rosiglitazone side effects include the following: low blood glucose level, excessive fluid retention in the body tissues, resulting in swelling, constipation, low red blood cell count, increase in the level of fats, e.g. cholesterol, in the blood, weight gain, increased appetite, headache, fatigue, dizziness, pain in the muscles, pins and needles, difficulty in breathing, heart failure, decrease in the number of platelets in the blood, abnormal liver function, fluid in the lungs, swelling of the back of the eye. InteractionsIf Rosiglitazone is combined with one of the following medicines, the effects of either could be increased, decreased, or altered: insulin or nitrates, gemfibrozil or oral antidiabetic medicines, rifampin, anticoagulants. |
