Erythromycin
Generic Name: Erythromycin US Brand Name: ATS, Eruthocin Other Brand/Trade Names: Erythromycin is sold under different brand names worldwide, including: E-Mycin, Eryc, Ery-Tab, PCE, Pediazole, Ilosone, Ilotycin, Filmtab, Erymax, Erypar, EryPed, Erythrocot, E-Base, Erythroped, MY-E, Pediamycin, Zineryt, Abboticin, Abboticin-ES, Erycin, Stiemycine, Acnasol. UsesErythromycin is used to treat many different types of infections caused by bacteria. Active Ingredients: Erythromycin or Erythromycin ethylsuccinate (for oral administration) Inactive Ingredients: Tablets contain the following inactive ingredients: confectioner's sugar (contains corn starch), corn starch, FD&C Red No. 40, magnesium stearate, polacrilin potassium and sodium citrate. Ointments contain the following inactive ingredients: magnesium stearate, polacrilin potassium and sodium citrate. Dosage and FormsErythromycin is available in form of tablets, ointment, gel, suspension, powder for oral suspension, pads, solution or capsules. We offer Erythromycin in tablets. Take each dose of Erythromycin tablets as scheduled by your doctor, with a full glass of water or with food to minimize dizziness. Do not break, crush, or chew tablets, swallow them the whole. Apply Erythromycin ointment to affected area twice a day, in morning and evening after skin is thoroughly washed with soap and water and patted dry. You should apply the medicine to the whole area usually affected by acne, not just to the pimples themselves. Do not use this medicine on raw or irritated skin. Avoid washing the acne-affected area(s) too often. This may dry your skin and make your acne worse. The Erythromycin overdose may become apparent by the following symptoms: burning, itching, scaling, redness, or swelling of the skin. If the overdose took place, seek for emergency medical attention. Contraindications and PrecautionsThe presence of the following medical problems may affect the use of Erythromycin: diarrhea or a stomach or intestinal infection, kidney or liver disease, heart problems, fast or irregular heartbeat, myasthenia gravis, or the blood disorder porphyria, epithelial herpes simplex keratitis. There is no evident risk for pregnant or breast-feeding women. Side EffectsCommon Erythromycin side effects include the following: bloody stools, hearing changes, irregular heartbeat, red, swollen, or blistered skin, diarrhea, severe stomach pain or cramps, yellowing of skin or eyes, dryness, itching, burning sensation, epigastric, hearing loss, skin rush, painful irritation of the skin, blistering, scaling. InteractionsIf Erythromycin is combined with one of the following medicines, the effects of either could be increased, decreased, or altered: astemizole, cisapride, pimozide, terfenadine, cyclosporine, diltiazem, dofetilide, ergot alkaloids, HIV protease inhibitors, imidazoles, QT prolonging agents, quinolones, streptogramins, sumatriptan, verapamil, cisapride, digoxin, sildenafil, disopyramide, warfarin, theophylline, alprazolam, triazolam, ergotamine, dihydroergotamine, carbamazepine, phenytoin, valproic acid, tacrolimus, cyclosporine, lovastatin, simvastatin, bromocriptine, cilostazol, quinidine, vinblastine. |
