Other Brand/Trade Name: Piroxicam is sold under many brand names worldwide, including: Brexidol, Brexin, Erazon, Felden, Feldoral, Hotemin, Proponol, Reumador, Tracam, Veral, and Vurdon.

Uses

Piroxicam is used to relieve the symptoms of rheumatoid, osteoarthritis and postoperative pain.

Active Ingredients: Piroxicam
Inactive Ingredients: Blue 1, Red 3, lactose, magnesium stearate, sodium lauryl sulfate, starch, gelatin, colouring agents, erythrosine, titanium dioxide.

Dosage and Forms

Piroxicam can be found in form of capsules. Take Piroxicam capsules by mouth with full glass of water or with food as schedulled by your doctor. Do not chew or cut capsules, swallow them the whole.
Symptoms of Piroxicam overdose may include the following: nausea, vomiting, stomach pain, drowsiness, black or bloody stools, coughing up blood, shallow breathing, fainting, or coma. If the overdose is suspected contact your doctor or emergency room immediately.

Contraindications and Precautions

Piroxicam should be avoided by patients, who recently had or will be having bypass heart surgery, have a history of heart attack, stroke, or blood clot, heart disease, congestive heart failure, high blood pressure, history of stomach ulcers or bleeding, liver or kidney disease, asthma, bleeding or blood clotting disorder, polyps in nose, alchogol or nicotin dependence. Besides, Piroxicam is contraindicated to pregnant or breast-feeding women.

Side Effects

Piroxicam may cause the following side effects: nausea, stomach pain, low fever, loss of appetite, sore throat, headache, red skin rash, numbness, pain, muscle weakness, diarrhea, constipation, dizziness, nervousness, blurred vision, ringing in ears, swelling or rapid weight gain.

Interactions

Piroxicam should be avoided to be taken along with the following: anticoagulants, aspirin, corticosteroids, selective serotonin, probenecid, cyclosporine, hydantoins, lithium, methotrexate, quinolones, sulfonamides, sulfonylureas, angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors, diuretics.
