Uses

Ofloxacin, an antibiotic, is used to treat bacterial infections that cause bronchitis, pneumonia, chlamydia, gonorrhea, skin infections, urinary tract infections, and infections of the prostate.

Inactive Ingredients: Tablets contain the following inactive ingredients: anhydrous lactose, modified corn starch, hydroxypropyl cellulose, hypromellose, magnesium stearate, polyethylene glycol, polysorbate 80, sodium starch glycolate, titanium dioxide and may also contain synthetic yellow iron oxide.

Dosage and Forms

Ofloxacin is available in form of tablets of 200 mg and 400 mg dosage.
Take each dose of Ofloxacin as scheduled by your doctor, with a full glass of water or with food to minimize dizziness.
The Ofloxacin overdose may become apparent by the following symptoms: disorientation, dizziness, drowsiness, hot and cold flashes, nausea, slurring of speech, confusion, swelling and numbness in the face. If the overdose took place, seek for emergency medical attention.

Contraindications and Precautions

The presence of the following medical problems may affect the use of Ofloxacin: diabetes, kidney problems, liver problems, recent heart attack, heart problems, irregular heartbeat, Alzheimer disease, hardening in the arteries in the brain, seizures, increased pressure on the brain, another central nervous system disorder, tendonitis, skin which is sensitive to sunlight. Besides, it should be used with caution in pregant of breast-feeding women.

Side Effects

Common Ofloxacin side effects include the following: diarrhea, seizure, confusion, hallucinations, dizziness, fainting, easy bruising or bleeding, pale or yellowed skin, fever, sore throat, headache, fast or pounding heartbeat, nausea, vomiting, stomach pain, constipation, muscle pain, sleep problems, itching.

Interactions

If Ofloxacin is combined with one of the following medicines, the effects of either could be increased, decreased, or altered: blood thinners, warfarin, cimetidine, cyclosporine, insulin, diabetes medication, theophylline, aspirin or other NSAIDs, ibuprofen, diclofenac, indomethacin, naproxen, piroxicam, nabumetone, etodolac, heart rhythm medicine, amiodarone, dofetilide, disopyramide, ibutilide, procainamide, quinidine, sotalol, aluminum, iron, or magnesium salts.
