Uses

Alendronate is used in prevention and treatment of osteoporosis, relieve Paget's disease of bone.

Active Ingredients: Alendronate sodium
Inactive Ingredients: microcrystalline cellulose, anhydrous lactose, croscarmellose sodium, and magnesium stearate. Tablets Fosamax 10 mg also contain carnauba wax.

Dosage and Forms

Alendronate can be found in form of pills or oral suspension. In our store Alendronate is available in form of pills only.
Take Alendronate pills by mouth with full glass of plain water as schedulled by your doctor. Swallow the tablets whole; do not split, chew or crush them. After you take Alendronate, do not eat, drink, or take any other medications (including vitamins or antacids) and do not lie down for at least 30 minutes.
Symptoms of Alendronate overdose may include the following: painful swallowing, severe heartburn, stomach pain or upset, hypophosphatemia, heartburn, nausea. If the overdose is suspected contact your doctor or emergency room immediately.

Contraindications and Precautions

Alendronate should be avoided by patients who have low blood calcium (hypocalcemia), a vitamin D deficiency, kidney or liver disease, an ulcer in the stomach or esophagus.

Side Effects

Alendronate may cause the following side effects: mild heartburn or stomach upset, diarrhea, gas, or constipation, joint pain or swelling, swelling in your hands or feet, back pain, dizziness, weakness, or headache.

Interactions

Alendronate should be avoided to be taken along with the following: calcium supplements such as Caltrate, antacids such as Riopan, other antacids, supplements, or medicines that contain aluminum, calcium, magnesium, or other minerals, aspirin or other NSAIDs.
