Uses

Sumatriptan is used in treatment of migraine attacks with/without aura, treatment of acute cluster headaches. Sumatriptan will only treat a headache that has already begun. It will not prevent headaches or reduce the number of attacks.

Active Ingredients: Sumatriptan

Inactive Ingredients: Tablets contain the following inactive ingredients: croscarmellose sodium, dibasic calcium phosphate, magnesium stearate, microcrystalline cellulose, and sodium bicarbonate, hypromellose, iron oxide, titanium dioxide, and triacetin.

Dosage and Forms

Sumatriptan is available in form of tablet, nasal spray or injection. We offer Sumatriptan tablets only.

Sumatriptan should be taken as soon as your symptoms appear, but may be used at any time during an attack. Sumatriptan tablets should be swallowed whole, with full glass of water. You may take several doses of Sumatriptan per day, if there is no relief, but never take more then 300 mg in a day.

The Sumatriptan overdose may become apparent by the following symptoms: tremors or shaking, skin redness, breathing problems, blue-colored lips or fingernails, vision problems, watery eyes or mouth, weakness, lack of coordination, or seizure. If the overdose took place, seek for emergency medical attention.

Contraindications and Precautions

The presence of the following medical problems may affect the use of Sumatriptan: history of heart disease, angina, blood circulation problems, history of a heart attack or stroke, ischemic bowel disease, high blood pressure, liver disease, epilepsy or other seizure disorder; kidney disease, coronary artery disease.

Side Effects

Common Sumatriptan side effects include the following: nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, muscle pain, warmth or redness under your skin, pressure or heavy feeling in any part of your body, sneezing, runny nose, congestion, cough, dizziness, sleepiness, drooling or sweating, fast heart rate, agitation, muscle stiffness, hallucinations, lack of coordination, with nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, sudden and severe stomach pain and bloody diarrhea, chest pain or heavy feeling, pain spreading to the arm or shoulder, nausea, sweating, general ill feeling.

Interactions

If Sumatriptan is combined with one of the following medicines, the effects of either could be increased, decreased, or altered: almotriptan (Axert), eletriptan (Relpax), frovatriptan (Frova), naratriptan (Amerge), rizatriptan (Maxalt, Maxalt-MLT), zolmitriptan (Zomig), ergot medicine such as methysergide (Sansert), ergotamine (Ergomar, Ergostat, Cafergot, Ercaf, Wigraine), dihydroergotamine (D.H.E. 45, Migranal Nasal Spray), ergonovine (Ergotrate), methylergonovine (Methergine), antidepressant such as citalopram (Celexa), duloxetine (Cymbalta), escitalopram (Lexapro), fluoxetine (Prozac, Sarafem), fluvoxamine (Luvox), paroxetine (Paxil), sertraline (Zoloft), venlafaxine (Effexor), another migraine medicine such as almotriptan (Axert), eletriptan (Relpax), frovatriptan (Frova), sumatriptan (Imitrex), rizatriptan (Maxalt), zolmitriptan (Zomig).
