Generic Name: Hydrochlorothiazide US Brand Name: Aquazide; Microzide Brand Name(s): Hydrochlorothiazide is marketed under many trade names around the world, including: Apo-Hydro, Atenadon, Catiazida, Chlorzide, Diidrotiazide, Hydro-Diuril, Novohydrazide. UsesHydrochlorothiazide is a diuretic. Diuretics increase the amount of urine passed, which causes the body to lose water and salt. Hydrochlorothiazide helps to treat high blood pressure (hypertension). It is not a cure. It also reduces the swelling and water retention caused by various medical conditions, such as heart, liver, or kidney disease. Active Ingredients: Hydrochlorothiazide Inactive Ingredients: Benzyl alcohol, cetylpyridinium chloride, D&C Red No. 33, FD&C Yellow No. 6, gelatin, glycine, lactose, magnesium stearate, microcrystalline cellulose, povidone, polysorbate 80, sodium starch glycolate, titanium dioxide. Dosage and FormsHydrochlorothiazide comes as tablets and oral solution. We sell Hydrochlorothiazide in tablet form only. The dose of these medicines will be different for different patients. The following information includes only the average doses of these medicines. If your dose is different, do not change it unless your doctor tells you to do. Adults - 25 to 100 mg one or two times a day. Children - Dose is based on body weight and must be determined by your doctor. Overdose symptoms may include: nausea, weakness, dizziness, dry mouth, thirst and muscle pain or weakness. Contraindications and PrecautionsDo not use this medication if you are allergic to Hydrochlorothiazide or if you are unable to urinate. Before using Hydrochlorothiazide tell your doctor if you have: kidney disease; liver disease; asthma or allergies; gout; diabetes or allergy to sulfa drugs. If you have any of these conditions you may need a dose adjustment or special tests to safely take Hydrochlorothiazide. Side EffectsSide effects cannot be anticipated. If any develop or change in intensity, inform your doctor. Only your doctor can determine if it is safe for you to continue taking Hydrochlorothiazide. Side effects may include: abdominal cramping, diarrhea, dizziness upon standing up, headache, loss of appetite, low blood pressure, low potassium (leading to symptoms such as dry mouth, excessive thirst, weak or irregular heartbeat, muscle pain or cramps), stomach irritation, stomach upset, weakness. InteractionsBefore using this medication, tell your doctor of all prescription and nonprescription/herbal products you may use, especially of: cholestyramine, colestipol, corticosteroids (e.g., prednisone), diazoxide, digoxin, lithium, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (e.g., ibuprofen, indomethacin. This product can affect the results of certain lab tests. Make sure laboratory personnel and your doctors know you use this drug. |
