Prevacid
Generic Name: Lansoprazole US Brand Name: Prevacid Other Brand/Trade Names: Lansoprazole is marketed under many trade names around the world, including: HeliClear; HeliMet; Lansone; Prevacid; Prezal UsesLansoprazole is used to treat ulcers; gastroesophageal reflux disease, a condition in which backward flow of acid from the stomach causes heartburn and injury of the food pipe; and conditions where the stomach produces too much acid, such as Zollinger-Ellison syndrome. Lansoprazole is used in combination with other medications to eliminate H. pylori, a bacterium that causes ulcers. Active Ingredients: Lansoprazole Inactive Ingredients: Hydroxypropyl cellulose, low substituted hydroxypropyl cellulose, colloidal silicon dioxide, magnesium carbonate, methacrylic acid copolymer, starch, talc, sugar sphere, sucrose, polyethylene glycol, polysorbate 80, and titanium dioxide. Dosage and FormsLansoprazole comes as capsules, granules for oral suspension, injection powder for reconstitution and tablets. The amount of medicine that you take depends on the strength of the medicine. Also, the number of doses you take each day, the time allowed between doses, and the length of time you take the medicine depend on the medical problem for which you are using the medicine. Symptoms of the Lansoprazole overdose are unknown. Contraindications and PrecautionsLansoprazole delayed-release capsules are contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to any component of the formulation. Side EffectsLansoprazole is well-tolerated. The most common side effects are diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, constipation, rash and headaches. Dizziness, nervousness, abnormal heartbeat, muscle pain, weakness, leg cramps and water retention rarely occur. InteractionsUsing this medicine with any of the following medicines is usually not recommended, but may be required in some cases.
