Uses

Omeprazole is used in treatment of conditions caused by excess stomach acid such as gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) and gastric ulcer.

Active Ingredients: Omeprazole
Inactive Ingredients: cellulose, disodium hydrogen phosphate, hydroxypropyl cellulose, hypromellose, lactose, mannitol, sodium lauryl sulfate, gelatin-NF, FD&C Blue #1, FD&C Red #40, D&C Red #28, titanium dioxide, synthetic black iron oxide, isopropanol, butyl alcohol, FD&C Blue #2, D&C Red #7 Calcium Lake.

Dosage and Forms

Omeprazole can be found in form of delayed-release capsules with contain enteric-coated granules inside.
Take Omeprazole capsules by mouth with full glass of water before meal as schedulled by your doctor. Do not chew, cut, break or open capsules, swallow them the whole.
Symptoms of Omeprazole overdose may include the following: drowsiness, blurred vision, fast heartbeat, nausea, vomiting, sweating, headache, flushing, confusion, increased sweating or dry mouth. If the overdose is suspected contact your doctor or emergency room immediately.

Contraindications and Precautions

Omeprazole should be avoided by patients, who have allergic reaction to any of its ingredients, liver disease, stomach cancer, stomach inflammation, stomach pain, heartburn, sudden weight loss, frequent chest pain, atrophic gastritis. Besides, Omeprazole can be harmful to pregnant or breast-feeding women.

Side Effects

Omeprazole may cause the following side effects: stomach pain, gas, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, headache, itching, fever, loss of appetite, tiredness or weakness, sore throat, heartburn, runny nose, sneezing, constipation, taste alteration.

Interactions

Omeprazole should be avoided to be taken along with the following: blood thinners, medicines for insomnia or anxiety, atazanavir, iron, disulfiram, ampicillin, cyclosporine, fluconazole, itraconazole, ketoconazole, digoxin, theophylline, tacrolimus, phenytoin.
