Protonix
Generic Name: Pantoprazole US Brand Name: Protonix Other Brand/Trade Names: Pantopan, Protium, Pantozol, Pantor, Pantoloc, Astropan, Controloc, Pantecta. UsesPantoprazole is used for the treatment of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD). However, it was successfully used for the treatment of ulcers of the stomach and duodenum, and the Zollinger-Ellison Syndrome. Active Ingredients: Pantoprazole sodium sesquihydrate Inactive Ingredients: Calcium stearate, crospovidone, hypromellose, iron oxide, mannitol, methacrylic acid copolymer, polysorbate 80, povidone, propylene glycol, sodium carbonate, sodium lauryl sulfate, titanium dioxide, and triethyl citrate. Dosage and FormsPantoprazole comes as a delayed-release tablet for oral administration, available in 2 strengths (40 mg and 20 mg); and as delayed-release granules for oral administration, available in the 40 mg strength. The dose is taken orally, 30 minutes before meal. DO NOT take Pantoprazole with meal or water. Each dose should be swallowed with applesauce or apple juice. Do not chew, crush or split the tablet. The recommended dose for adults is 40mg daily during 8 weeks. Pantoprazole has not been tested for safety or effectiveness in children. Contraindications and PrecautionsPantoprazole should not be used in cases of known hypersensitivity to its active ingredient. There is no study of the reaction of using this medication during pregnancy and lactation. Side EffectsMost common side effects that were noticed in people using this medication are: headache, diarrhea, and gas. They don’t require any medical attention unless side effects are long-lasting. InteractionsPantoprazole taking along with Ketoconazole, Ampicillin, and Iron Salts can reduce the absorption of the last ones. If you should combine Pantoprazole with any above mentioned drugs talk to your doctor before. |
