Roxithromycin
Generic Name: Roxithromycin UsesRoxithromycin is used to treat infections in different parts of the body caused by bacteria. Roxithromycin, like other antibiotics, does not work against viral infections such as flu. Ask your doctor if you have any questions about why Roxithromycin has been prescribed for you. Dosage and FormsRoxithromycin comes in tablets. Roxithromycin should be taken at least 15 minutes before food or on an empty stomach. Roxithromycin works best if you take it on an empty stomach. Food in the stomach can reduce the absorption of Roxithromycin. Swallow the tablet whole with a glass of water. Taking your tablet at the same time each day will have the best effect on your infection. It will also help you to remember when to take it. Contraindications and PrecautionsRoxithromycin is contraindicated to patients who are taking medicines for migraine headache called ergot alkaloids. Use cautiously with hepatic dysfunction, lactation (secreted and may be concentrated in breast milk; may modify bowel flora of nursing infant and interfere with fever workups). Side EffectsRoxithromycin can be well tolerated, but also can cause severe toxicity which is usually related to the dose taken. Contact your doctor immediately if you face any of the following gastrointestinal side effects: diarrhea, nausea, abdominal pain and vomiting. Stop taking Roxithromycin and inform your doctor if you have any of the following side effects: headaches, dizziness, vertigo, and also the rarely seen rashes, abnormal liver function values and alteration in senses of smell and taste. InteractionsSome medicines or medical conditions may interact with this medicine. Tell your doctor or pharmacist what medicines you are already taking, including those bought without a prescription and herbal medicines, before you start treatment with Roxithromycin. Drug interactions can result in unwanted side effects or prevent a medicine from doing its job. |
