Uses

Cefixime is a cephalosporin antibiotic used to treat infections caused by bacteria such as pneumonia; bronchitis; gonorrhea; and ear, lung, throat, and urinary tract infections. Antibiotics will not work for colds, flu, or other viral infections. This medication is sometimes prescribed for other uses; ask your doctor or pharmacist for more information.

Active Ingredients: cefixime
Inactive Ingredients: pregelatinized starch, dibasic calcium phosphate, hydroxypropyl methylcellulose, light mineral oil, magnesium stearate, microcrystalline cellulose, sodium lauryl sulfate, and titanium dioxide.

Dosage and Forms

Cefixime comes in tablets and liquid form.
Take Cefixime exactly as directed by your doctor. If you do not understand these instructions, ask your pharmacist, nurse, or doctor to explain them to you. Take each dose with a full glass of water. Take cefixime with food or milk if it causes stomach upset. Continue to take cefixime even if you feel well. Do not stop taking cefixime without talking to your doctor.
Contact you doctor promptly of you think you have taken too much of Cefixime. Symptoms may include: nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and abdominal cramps.

Contraindications and Precautions

Cefixime is contraindicated to persons who are allergic to any ingredients of Suprax or any opther cephalosporin antibiotic such as cefaclor (Ceclor) or cephalexin (Keflex).You may not be able to take Cefixime if you have or have ever had kidney or liver disease, colitis, or stomach problems.

Side Effects

Side effects associated with Cefixime cannot be anticipated. If any develop or change in intensity, inform your doctor as soon as possible. Only your doctor can determine if it is safe for you to continue taking Cefixime. Side effects may include: Abdominal pain, gas, indigestion, loose stools, mild diarrhea, nausea, vomiting.

Interactions

Many drugs can increase the effects of Cefixime, which can lead to heavy sedation. Cefixime may interact with the following drugs: Aspirin and aspirin-like medicines; Probenecid. Drugs other than those listed here may also interact with Cefixime. Talk to your prescriber or health care professional about other medicines that may increase the effect of Cefixime before taking any prescription or over-the-counter medicines.
