Uses

Atenolol is used to treat angina (chest pain), hypertension (high blood pressure) and to treat or prevent heart attack.

Inactive Ingredients: magnesium stearate, microcrystalline cellulose, povidone, sodium starch glycolate.

Dosage and Forms

Atenolol can be found in form of pills or ampoules.
Take Atenolol pills by mouth with full glass of water or with food as schedulled by your doctor. You may crush or crew the pill if swallowing it is troublesome.
Symptoms of Atenolol overdose may include the following: breathing problems, chest pain, fainting, pounding in the chest, seizures, severe dizziness, severe weakness, very slow heartbeat, wheezing. If the overdose is suspected contact your doctor or emergency room immediately.

Contraindications and Precautions

Atenolol should be avoided by patients who have asthma, bronchitis, emphysema, diabetes, low blood pressure, heart problem, depression, liver or kidney disease, myasthenia gravis, a thyroid disorder, pheochromocytoma, problems with circulation. Besides, Atenolol is contraindicated to pregnant or breast-feeding women.

Atenolol may cause the following side effects: decreased sex drive, impotence, sleep problems (insomnia), tired feeling, anxiety, nervousness, feeling light-headed, fainting, nausea, stomach pain, low fever, loss of appetite, depression.

Interactions

Atenolol should be avoided to be taken along with the following: clonidine, guanabenz, MAO inhibitors, isocarboxazid, tranylcypromine, phenelzine, selegiline, diabetes medication, a heart medication, medicine for asthma or other breathing disorders, cold medicines, stimulant medicines, or diet pills; allergy treatments.
