Generic Name: Lisinopril US Brand Name: Zestril Other Brand/Trade Names: Lisinopril is marketed under many trade names around the world, including: Coric® (DE); Dapril® (CZ, RU, SG, SK, UA); Lisinopril® (CL, GB, NO); Lisinopril Copyfarm® (SE); Lisinopril-corax® (DE); Lapril UsesLisinopril is used for treating high blood pressure alone or with other medicines. It is used along with other medicines to manage heart failure or improve survival after a heart attack. Active Ingredients: Lisinopril Inactive Ingredients: Calcium phosphate, magnesium stearate, mannitol, red ferric oxide, starch. Dosage and FormsLisinopril comes as tablets. The starting dose of Lisinopril is 5 mg daily; the dose can be increased by 10 mg every 2 weeks to achieve the maximum effect. The starting dose of Lisinopril for treating high blood pressure is 10 mg daily and gradually increased the dose. Treatment of heart attack is started with 5 mg followed by 5 mg after 24 hours, 10 mg after 48 hours and then 10 mg daily. The maximum dose is 40 mg daily. Side EffectsYou may experience headache, dizziness, lightheadedness, fatigue, nausea, diarrhea, dry cough or blurred vision as your body adjusts to the medication. If any of these effects persist or worsen, notify your doctor promptly. Contact your doctor immediately if any of these unlikely but very serious side effects occur: change in the amount of urine or dark urine, vision changes, signs of infection (e.g., fever, chills, persistent sore throat), yellowing of the eyes or skin, stomach/abdominal pain, persistent fatigue, persistent nausea. This drug may rarely cause serious (possibly fatal) liver problems. A very serious allergic reaction to this drug is rare. InteractionsIn general, Lisinopril should not be taken with potassium supplements or diuretics that conserve potassium, since blood potassium levels may rise to dangerous levels and other heart drugs. |
